By Airways:
Chennai is directly linked by many airlines to Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Goa, Bombay, Bhubaneshwar, Calcutta, Cochin, Coimbatore, Delhi, Hyderabad, Port Blair, Madurai, Pune, Tirupati, Tiruchirapalli, Trivandrum, Puttaparthy, Vishakhapatnam and to Colombo, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore.

By Railways:
Chennai is connected by rail with Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bombay, Calcutta, Cochin, Coimbatore, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kodai Road, Lucknow, Madurai, Mangalore, Ooty ( via Mettupalayam ), Rameshwaram, Trichy, Tirupati Trivandrum and Varanasi.

By Roadways:
A good network of roads and national highways connect Chennai with all major towns and cities. There are regular bus services to and from Coimbatore, Trichy, Bangalore, Madurai, Kanyakumari, Mysore, Palghat, Calicut, Tirupati and other important destinations in South India. Chennai is also well connected with major cities of Kerala and Karnataka.

By Other Means:
Taxis, tourist cabs, auto rickshaws are available in plenty. There are no standard rates except tourist cabs. Town buses are also available to all important places. Conducted sight seeing tours are arranged by the private operators and the Government Tourism Development Corporation.

History
Chennai, became Denver`s seventh sister city in 1984. Near the tip of India on the Bay of Bengal, the scent of sandalwood floats in the warm air of this city which is considered the Hollywood of India. From 1636 until the year 1999, Denver`s 7th sister city was known as Madras but in the year 1999 the name Madras was officially changed to Chennai.

Anna University
Anna University was established on 4th September 1978 as a unitary type of University. Since December 2001,it has become a large, highly renowned affiliated University, having brought into its fold about 225 Self-financing Engineering Colleges, six Government Colleges and three Government-aided Engineering colleges located in various parts of Tamilnadu State. It offers higher education in Engineering, Technology and allied Sciences relevant to the current and projected needs of the society.Besides promoting research and disseminating knowledge gained therefrom, it fosters cooperation between the academic and industrial communities.

Museum
Government Museum, Chennai is a multi-purpose State Government Museum located in Egmore, which is the heart of the city, spreading to an area of 16.25 acres of land. Six independent buildings in this Museum campus has 46 galleries.

Birla Planetarium
Set up in memory of industrialist B. M. Birla, the Planetarium takes visitors on an information-rich journey through space. A 236-seater hemispherical theatre houses a computerised projector that creates a simulated unravelling of the astronomical mysteries.

Kapaleeswarar Temple

San Thome Basilica
The San Thome Basilica, on the Main Beach Road at the southern end of Marina derives its name from St Thomas, the apostle of Christ who came to Chennai in 52 AD. He was martyred in 78 AD, just outside the city at a spot now referred to as the St. Thomas Mount. Built in the 16th century by the Portuguese, the church was rebuilt as a cathedral and in 1896 and made a basilica, which contains the mortal remains of the saint. The cathedral spires that soar up the citys skyline encapsulate the history of Christian faith in Chennai. The central hall with its stained glass panes has 14 wooden plaques depicting scenes from the last days of Christ. In the cathedral is a 3 ft. high statue of Virgin Mary, which was brought from Portugal in 1543.

Thousand Lights Mosque
It is referred to as the Thousand Lights Mosque because of the legend that over one thousand lamps had to be used to light up the Assembly Hall which stood at this same spot. This multi-domed mosque, with sayings from the Holy Koran painted on its walls, comes alive during the annual Moharram.

Beaches
Marina beach, Anna Beach, Triplicane Beach, Gandhi Beach and Elliots beach adorn the city of Chennai.

Nageswara Park
Opened to the public in October 1940, the park, which was originally much smaller than it is today, The park that is open to the public on all days (from 7 a.m. onward) has a separate play area for children. The park has a well-maintained garden with varieties of trees like Lapostromea, Capsia Fistula and Tabulia and foliage trees like Pungam, Neem, Palms, Ficus Religeosa and Thespesia. Medicinal and Ornamental plants are also found here.

Natesan Park
The park, spread over 4 acres, with long walkways, fountains and garden lights, was opened to the public on September 13, 1950, by the then Minister of Agriculture, A.B.Shetty. Situated in the heart of the city, the park has a variety of trees and plants. Crotons, aralias, bougainvilleas, acalypha, ceesil peniea, pulcharima, mahogany, neem and gulmohur.

Sivan Park
Sivan Park on P.T.Rajan Salai, K.K.Nagar, gives you more than the expected pleasure of a leisurely stroll.The visitor gets a chance to see various monument replicas, like that of the Gateway of India. It is the only Corporation- maintained park where there is a 15 feet high statue of Lord Siva, depicted in a posture of meditation. The statue is designed in such a way that water flows down from the head, from a height of about 15 feet, giving it a cascading effect. In addition to well-maintained lawns, pathways and play area for children; the park has a good collection of trees including Petophorum, Rain tree, Gulmohur and shrubs like acalyppa, creepers and ground covers. There is also a nursery that sells plants to visitors to the park.

May Day Park
May Day Park, originally known as Napier Park, is situated on Deputy Mayor Kabalamoorthy Road in Chintadripet. Spread over 14.5 acres, the Park is used to hold public meetings during the May Day celebrations. Even political parties and associations take out rallies from the park.
